Apple Plans M6 MacBook Pro This Year, Redesigned M7 Model to Follow in 2027

Apple plans to update its entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro twice in a short period, with an M6 model expected in late 2026 and a redesigned M7 MacBook Pro planned for the first half of 2027.

Bloomberg reports that Apple has already finished work on the M6 MacBook Pro, which keeps the current design and serves as a faster refresh for the base 14-inch model. However, Apple does not plan to make M6 Pro and M6 Max chips, which means the M6 cycle will remain shorter than usual.

The bigger update arrives with the M7 MacBook Pro, which Apple is preparing with a new design linked to its upcoming higher-end MacBook Pro models with OLED displays and touchscreens. Earlier reports have suggested that these premium models will use a slimmer body, and the entry-level version will follow a similar design direction.

Apple wants to move quickly from M6 to M7 because the M7 chip includes improvements made for heavier AI workloads. This fits Apple’s broader chip strategy as the company prepares its Mac lineup for more demanding on-device AI features.

The timeline still depends on Apple’s supply chain, as memory chip shortages and rising component costs have already affected product schedules. Because of this, Apple’s late 2026 and early 2027 roadmap can still change before launch.

The redesigned MacBook Pro is also part of a busy 2027 lineup, which reportedly includes new iPad Pro models, iPhone Air 2, iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, a foldable iPhone, smart glasses, and new smart home devices.
